He was a veteran of the Confederate States Army, Company B, 29th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Army. He married 1st in 1864 to Julia Ann C. Watson. She died in 1882. He married 2nd to Mary Etta Shaver, daughter of Turner Shaver and Annie Garner. When the Oklahoma territory opened James moved to Oklahoma and lived there for many years. In later life he returned to his home in Anderson County. He was severely wounded in the lower leg at Chickamauga where his brother Simeon Carroll was killed. my grandfather was with the 19th Ga. and the other one was with the 41Tn and fought at Chickamauga also. A great Uncle also died there..Rest in Peace you deserve it -
