Charles A. Calkins, 75, of Dallas, passed away Monday at his home.
Born in Luzerne, he was a son of the late Arthur and Eleanor Welch Calkins. He was a graduate of Dallas Borough High School. Before retiring, he was employed as a tradesman at the State Correctional Institution, Dallas. Previously, he was employed as a plumber and HVAC technician. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Charles was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church; Kingston Lodge 395 F.&A.M.; Irem Shrine Center, Dallas; and Daddow-Isaacs American Legion Post 672, Dallas.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Charles is survived by sons Keith A., Dallas; Scott A., Shickshinny; Todd C., Shavertown; daughters Susan Wright and Heidi Green, Weatherford, Texas; Sandra Transue, Somerset, N.J.; sister Carol Spalding; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Lynn Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Shavertown.
Friends may call today, from 7 to 9 p.m. Legion services will at be 7:30 pm. with Masonic services at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
