Donald Lee Caldwell, Sr. was born December 6, 1940, in St. Charles, Iowa, to Donald Francis and Delpha Davis Caldwell.

On April 30, 1960, he was united in marriage with Viola Mary Curtis. To this union four children were born: Lannette Kay, Donald Lee Jr., Connie Francis, and Albert Mitchell.

Donald served his country in the United States Army and National Guard from 1957 to 1978. He received the ranking of (SFC) Sargent First Class.

He farmed in the Corydon area and also was a truck driver. He enjoyed horses, hunting, and motorcycles.

Donald went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at his residence near Leighton at the age of seventy-three.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-three years, Viola; his four children: Lannette and her husband, Larry Hiemstra of Leighton, Donald Jr. and his wife, Julia of Pella, Connie and her husband James Mehrhoff of Corydon, Albert Caldwell and Pam Bennett of Harvey, and adopted children, Jake, Haley, and Lizzie Shelter; his grandchildren: Johnathan and Whitney Jellison Mehrhoff, Curtis Mehrhoff, Mary and Jamey Wineland, Michelle Hiemstra and Brandon Winn, Morgan Hiemstra, Justin and Megan Caldwell, Brandon and Allie Caldwell, Benjamin Caldwell, and Albert Mitchell Caldwell, Jr.; three great-grandchildren: Abner Dean Wineland, Karleigh Sue Merritt, and Karsyn Mae Merritt. Also surviving are: his brother, Doyle Caldwell and his wife, Melody; his sisters, Beverly and her husband, Jack Sallee, and Joy and her husband, Louis Streit.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Donald and Esther Caldwell; his mother, Delpha Helmick; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence T. and Marian Curtis; sister, Phyllis Waglin, and brother-in-law, Lyle Waglin.
