Died – Earl Bower Crushed To Death By Tractor
Earl Bower, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Bower who live near here, was crushed to death Monday P.M., when he fell under the wheels of a tractor which he was operating on his father's farm located on the Fairview – New Waterford Road. He had a spring tooth and a drag harrow attached to the tractor and had worked about half of the field when it is thought that he was thrown forward in the path of the machine, when traveling a rough piece of ground. No one witnessed the accident and the real cause of the fatal happening will never be known.

George E. Rupert, a neighbor working on a nearby field, noticed that the Bower tractor was standing still for a remarkable length of time and went to see if anything was wrong. On arriving he found the lifeless mangled body of Mr. Bower beneath the tractor. The machine was in an upright position with the engine still running.

Mr. Rupert summoned aid and the body was extracted and taken to the home.

Earl E. Bower was 26 years of age, born and reared in the neighborhood where he met his untimely death. About five years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Effie Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Baker, with whom he had an acquaintance since childhood. To this union one child was born, Pauline, aged about three years. Besides the bereaved wife and infant daughter, he leaves his father and mother on the home farm, three brothers, J. Floyd Bower, who lives on an adjoining farm to the father; Paul and Walter at home, and one sister, Blanche, attended Salem Business College.

The deceased was prominent in the Unity Township Grange and took an active part in all community and farm developments. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of New Waterford and superintendent of the Sunday school of that church, having been lately chosen to that office and had served but two Sunday's since of installation. His sudden death is a shock to the church that he's loved to serve and to the community, and a crushing blow to the family.

Services were conducted from the home early Wednesday afternoon and the body was later taken to the Presbyterian Church at New Waterford were services were held and the body laid to rest.
