Joseph and his wife Ola Lee Purswell Blazek drove to Alaska from Texas in 1947 in a Model A Ford. At the time of his death Joseph still had the Model A and it was in good condition.
Joseph and Ola built a log cabin in Spenard Alaska where they lived for several years before moving to Anchorage.
Joseph was a plumber and a part-time bush pilot. He was an amateur geologist and was active with conservation groups in Alaska.
His body was cremated and flown to Texas where he was buried beside his wife.
He served in the US Navy.
