In 1874 Mr. Bergman was appointed by Mayor Bresnahen as city treasurer of Cheyenne, which position he held for 10 years. He afterwards was elected county treasurer, which position he held for several terms. In 1896 he was elected a member of the Wyoming legislature and at the last election was elected county commissioner of Laramie county.
Judge Bergman was a man of good judgment and keen foresight. As a politician he was eminently successful and as a level headed citizen he had the esteem of all who knew him. He was well educated and spent a great deal of his time in keeping posted on current events. His memory was marvelous. As a public official he served the people faithfully and honestly and when a candidate for office, he ran with the leading candidates on the ticket.
Judge Bergman engaged in the cattle business several years ago, and when that industry collapsed he was among the number who sustained losses.
Deceased leaves a widow and daughter to mourn his loss.
The funeral will take place at the house on East Eighteenth street tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and will be in charge of the Masons, the deceased being a member of Cheyenne lodge No. 1.
