| Birth: | Apr. 9, 1891 Denver Denver County Colorado, USA | | Death: | Jun. 11, 1958 Los Angeles Los Angeles County California, USA | Famous Mother. "Mother Jean", as she is commonly known, dreamed of becoming a movie star but it was her daughter, Harlean Carpenter, who would achieve superstardom using the moniker of Jean Harlow. Much has been written about Mother Jean's pushing Harlean into an acting career and living vicariously through her daughter's fame (she wrote and signed a majority of Harlean's fan mail and photographs) but regardless of her motives she was by all accounts a deeply devoted parent. Rumors that her Christian Science practices contributed to Harlean's death have been disproven by biographers. Mother Jean was married three times: to Montclair Carpenter, Marino Bello and Henry "Heinie" Brand, with all unions ending in divorce. On the 21st anniversary of Harlean's death Mother Jean was admitted to the same hospital where her daughter had passed away, and she herself died from a heart attack four days later. Entombed without fanfare in the same mausoleum room as Harlean. Her crypt is unmarked and for many years it was unknown that she was laid to rest in the bottom crypt. (Thanks CT for the verified confirmation!) The third crypt, on top, remains unused, rumored to have originally been reserved for Harlean's beau, actor William Powell.
