Bishop Wright On
Death Of John Bear
__Bishop Milton Wright of the United Brethren church has written a letter to his friend, W. H. Meyers of this city, on the death of John Bear, who was one of his trusted friends when he lived in Cedar Rapids. Bishop Wright formerly resided here and later moved to Dayton, Ohio. He is the father of the Wright Brothers, inventors of flying machines. Orville is mentioned in the following letter. The Samma Bear mentioned in the letters is the Rev. Samuel Bear, and "Willie" is William S. Bear, the dairyman. The letter from the bishop to Mr. Meyers follows:
__"Dear Brother - It was a great favor you conferred upon me by notifying me of the death of my most trusted friend of Cedar Rapids. As a man true to his convictions and true to his friends, John Bear had no superior. His disposition may not have been at all times as tractable as that of some others, but he was a true man and my love for him follows him to the grave. My pen attests this, altho on the seventeenth of this month I am 88 years old.
__"His sons Samma and Willie were little boys when I knew them not far from the age of my son Orville. Their mother was a sainted woman, timid in her make-up, but now gone to glory. I hope her sons are on the way. One of them is, I learn, a successful business man; the other a minister. May they prosper.
__"My health is good, but I am on the way.
__"Your brother.
____"MILTON WRIGHT."
