| Birth: | Oct. 30, 1835 Rutherford County North Carolina, USA | | Death: | Jun. 22, 1864 Prince George County Virginia, USA |  This very handsome fellow was one of the 10 children of Christopher & Margaret Gordon Beam. He was a simple farmer in rural North Carolina when he and brother Oliver Perry Beam were called to fight in the War of Northern Aggression.
Marquis Lafayette Beam was born in Rutherford County, NC, and lived in Cleveland County when he enlisted on 21 November 1861 in Company I, 38th Regiment of NC Troops. The company was known as the "Cleveland Marksmen". He was killed near Petersburg, VA on 22 June 1864.
