Captain Elihu C. Barker

First Enlisted with Co. C 1st Iowa Vol. Cav. in June of 1861

For 3 years. He Reach the Ranks of 1st Sgt Then of 2nd Lieutenant of Co. C In May of 1864 he was offered the Rank of Captain in Co. C 113th U.S.C.I (U.S. Colored Inf.) He was a White Officer in charge of Colored Troops which is what they were called in the 1860s.

He came to Calif. in the Summer of 1879 and Became a Farmer. He Died on November the 11th 1918 Armistice day (End of the Great War!! AKA W.W, 1 ) He had been sick for over a month and told his Family that "I'll be Hanged if I'm Leaving here before I know our boys beat the Hun" (Germans).

And sure enough when the News came that Germany Has Given up the fight, His Last words were "Thank you lord for letting me see the end to all this Fuss.....You can take me now" And a few hours later He died peacefully in his sleep at age 84 A Grand old man right to the end and those who knew him loved him.
