Milford A. "Bill" Barefoot, 78, of South Amherst died Tuesday in his home.
Born in Pleasantville, Pa., he moved to Elyria in 1941 and then to South Amherst in 1958.
Mr. Barefoot was employed in plant maintenance at U.S. Steel Lorain Works for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He also owned and operated Mil-Mar Horse Boarding Stables on Russia Road in South Amherst for eight years.
He was a member of the Sanctuary at the Congregational Church in South Amherst for 43 years.
Mr. Barefoot enjoyed woodcarving, playing pool and cards and was a former manager in Little League West in Elyria.
He also enjoyed spending time with his family, and for 20 years he and his wife spent winters in Mesa, Ariz.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marjorie B. (nee Woods); daughters Bonnie S. Freas of Seville, Ohio, Jacqueline R. Coots of South Amherst, Marlene C. Matus of Oberlin, Pamela J. Kinsley of Vermilion and Lee Ann Jones of Columbia Station; sons Richard A. of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Thomas E. Barefoot of Mogadore, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters Catherine Otto of Monroeville, Pa., and Ruth Park of Altoona,Pa. He was preceded in death by one grandchild; his parents, John O. and Anna M. Barefoot: seven brothers; and one sister.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria.
Services will be at The Sanctuary at the Congregational Church in South Amherst, 114 W. Main St., South Amherst.
The Rev. Art Wiegand, Jr., will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
