Eugene Irving Anderson, 81, of Taylor Road died at 11 p.m. Friday, June 11, 1999, at his home. Born Oct. 5, 1917, in Crothersville, Mr. Anderson was the son of Irving and Grace Rawlings Anderson. He married Rosemary Tulley Oct. 9, 1940, at Franklin. She survives.

Also surviving are sons, David Anderson of Greer, S.C., and John Anderson of Naples, Fla.; daughters, Carol Hippensteel of Vincennes and Judy Deiwert of Franklin; a brother, Russell Anderson of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Burke Anderson.

He worked for Noblitt-Sparks Co. at the Franklin plant, was named president of Arvin Industries, Inc. in 1969 and retired as chairman of the board of directors in 1987. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1935 and Purdue University in 1939 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He also served as director of Irwin Union Bank and Trust, Indiana Energy Co., National Association of Manufacturers and the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. He enlisted in 1943 in the Navy reserves serving in Europe and the Pacific as a gunnery officer. He also worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio, and played basketball with the Goodyear Wingfoots in the National Basketball League.

Services were entrusted to Myers Funeral Home (Reed and Jewell Chapel) of Columbus, Indiana.
