Wendell D. Ackerman

Wood craftsman for more than half a century


BELMONT - Wendel D. Ackerman, 84, of Lamprey Road, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at the Lakes Regional General Hospital in Laconia.


Mr. Ackerman was born Sept. 16. 1921 in Hill, the son of Clifton and Iva (Minor) Ackerman. He was a longtime resident of Hill before moving to the Gilford/Belmont area 20 years ago.


Mr. Ackerman served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force, during World War II and was recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a tool and die maker and wood craftsman for more than 50 years and was employed at IPC and by Alan Estes in Bristol. Mr. Ackerman was a selectman and fire chief for the town of Hill.


Survivors include his wife of 63 years, A. Suzanne (Wood) Ackerman of Belmont, a son, Eric V. Ackerman of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, Melissa Bilodeau of N.C. and Alexandra Ackerman of Va.; two great grandchildren, Nicole Clairmont and Aaron Clairmont, and two cousins, Kay Ackerman and Mona Ackerman, both of Maine.


Calling hours will be held on Monday from 6 to 5 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.


A private burial will be held at the NEw Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.


Memorial donation may be mad to the American Lung Association, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford 03110.
