SOUTHINGTON — Loretta (Zieman) Forgione, 69, of Savage Street, passed away peacefully Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Southington Care Center surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife for 48 years of Henry E. Forgione II. Esq.
She was born Nov. 20, 1939, in Southampton, N.Y., daughter of Joseph Zieman of Southington and the late Jane (Kuzmech) Zieman. She graduated as valedictorian from Seton Hall High School in Patchogue, N.Y., in 1957. She then received a BA in mathematics from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, N.Y., in 1961. She was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic minister at Mary Our Queen Church in Plantsville, Conn. She was a dedicated math teacher at Eli Whitney RVTS in Hamden for 15 years and was honored with the 2003 Teacher of the Year Award. She adored her grandchildren and loved to attend all their school and sporting activities. She was a very giving person who always thought of others before herself. Her family will forever remember her as a special and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by her children, Maureen Barmore and her husband, Scott, Michael H. Forgione, Christina M. Forgione and her husband, Garry A. Coles, Stephen T. Forgione and his wife, Marla, all of Southington, and Andrea Katz and her husband, Aaron, of Cambridge, Mass., a sister, Sharon Duggan and her husband, Frank, of Hershey, Pa., her grandchildren, Garry Coles Jr, Drew Barmore, Will Barmore, Rielley Coles, Mia Lynne Forgione and Matthew Forgione, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Zieman.
The funeral will be held Monday, May 4, 10:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Mary Our Queen Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Church. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
