Dorothy M. Zeller (1931 - 2012)
Dorothy M. Zeller joined her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 23, 2012, while sleeping peacefully at her home. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Memorials: May be made to YoungLife in Abilene or to Litchfield Christian Church in Litchfield, Neb.
Born to Agatha and Garfield "Buck" Jones on Sept. 17, 1931, near Litchfield, Neb., Dorothy was the second born of four children. She graduated as salutatorian of the Litchfield High Class of 1949 and went on to teach in the area schools, while also working in her parents' variety store. On May 29, 1950, Dorothy married D.L. "Jack" Zeller of Poole, Neb. The couple farmed until Jack was called to military duty in Korea until 1953. Dorothy gave birth to a son, Danny Tim, on Sept. 27, 1957. In 1957 Dorothy and Jack, who was now employed by the CB&Q Railroad, relocated throughout several locations along the railroad line, settling in Casper, Wyo., in 1958. Their second son, Daryl Dean, was born Nov. 11, 1961, in Casper. In 1968, the family was transferred to Denver, Colo., where Dorothy continued active involvement in her beloved Christian Church and school organizations as well as Cub and Boy Scouts with her sons. The family's final move in 1969 was to Fort Worth, where Dorothy situated in what she considered her best home. Jack retired from what is now BNSF in 1985. Dorothy particularly enjoyed the climate in Fort Worth, as it allowed her an opportunity to get out and make new friends from all walks of life. Dorothy never forgot her Nebraska roots and thoroughly enjoyed visiting her still-present family in the Ravenna, Neb., area. Dorothy also loved her nieces and nephews in the Finke, Jones, McAuliffe and Zeller families so much, and always kept in touch with phone calls and cards on special occasions. Dorothy always made sure everyone was taken care of before taking care of herself. Selfless sacrifices and overt generosity are just a few descriptors that apply to her memory. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, John "Jack" Jones.
Survivors: Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Jack; sons, Dan Zeller and Daryl Zeller and wife, Rebekah; grandchildren, Laurence, Elizabeth, Grant, Suzanne, Erin, Jessica, Peter and Abigail; and great-grandchildren, Nick, Drew, Ty, Collin Jack and Kayleigh Zeller.
