DARRELL L. ZEGER, 58, of 6365 Marsh Road, Waynesboro, Pa., passed away at 4:58 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, in Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past month.
Born July 11, 1951, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Milfred L. "Andy" Zeger and Mary K. (Smith) Scubelek. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
Mr. Zeger was a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1969.
He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Guam as a radio operator.
He and his wife, the late Mrs. Laura M. (Oshel) Zeger, were married Feb. 1, 1975.
They moved to their present residence in 1978. Mrs. Zeger died June 3, 1991.
In his early life, Mr. Zeger was employed part time at Henicle's Market, Waynesboro. Following his discharge from the service, he was employed at Mack Truck Manufacturing, Hagerstown, Md., as a machinist for 16 years and for Rock's Welding, presently EZ-Dumper, Waynesboro, for more than 20 years in sales and shipping. He currently was employed in sales and shipping at Bri-Mar Manufacturing, Chambersburg, Pa.
He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 and Eagles Club Inc., both of Waynesboro. He also was an amateur radio operator.
Mr. Zeger's many interests included electronics, radio, attending car shows, working outside, his cats and trips to the beach, especially Ocean City, Md.
He is survived by his companion, Deborah W. Wallace of Waynesboro and her daughter, Megan R. Wallace; one son, Andrew L. Zeger of Quincy; one grandson, Austin L. Zeger; his sister, Debra K. (husband Charlie) Morrow of Waynesboro; two nieces; one great-niece; one stepsister, Victoria L. "Vicki" Jones of Waynesboro; and two stepbrothers, Merle A. "Buck" Thompson of Mont Alto, Pa., and Benjamin H. "Ben" Thompson of Fayetteville, Pa.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Dennis Beaver officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Franklin and Fulton County Unit, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
