Philomena “Phil” DeGidio, 83, of Cumberland died Nov. 25 at Cumberland Extended Care Unit. Funeral services were Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cumberland, with the Rev. David Lusson officiating and burial at the church cemetery.
Mrs. DeGidio was born April 19, 1922 in Cumberland to John and Florence (Ranallo) Zappa. She grew up in Cumberland, graduated from Cumberland High School in 1941 and married Louis DeGidio in Cumberland on Nov. 11, 1943. The couple lived in Louisville, Ky., for a short time and returned to Cumberland in 1946. They operated the Coffee Cup Café from 1947-1952, the Tower House from 1952-1965 and DeGidio Shoes from 1965-1980. Mrs. DeGidio also cooked at Spanky’s in Barronett and The Five O’Clock Club and worked in food service at Cumberland schools. She was active in the community and was awarded Citizen of the Year. Mrs. DeGidio was a member of the Degree of Honor, American Legion Auxiliary, Elks Club and Cumberland Golf Club and served with the altar society at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Louis; a son, David of Cambridge; a daughter, Sharon Herman of Cumberland; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucy DeCamillis of Louisville, Ky., Anne Severson of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Antionette Fish of Duluth; and two brothers, Lawrence and Henry, both of Cumberland.
