Santa Clara County
California, USA

Victor Daniel Zane, resident of Saratoga, died at home early on Saturday morning, May 22. Born 6 January 1921, he is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Anne, his children Paul, Krista, and Gael, son-in-law Pat, grand-children Jeff, Wendy, Max, and Alex, great grandchildren Austin, Isabella, Eva Sierra, Jackson, and Ruby. Vic, a well-known local artist, started his art career while in the Marines during WWII, providing paintings to Leatherneck Magazine. In 1976 his work was displayed in the Louvre as part of the "American Painters in Paris" exhibit. His subjects reflected his wide travels and many interests: marine, American West, Africa, Haiti, Caribbean, Mexico, and the Canadian Rockies. His last series of paintings were studies in ballet. Vic enjoyed sailing throughout his life and he and Anne owned a wide variety of boats. Always interested in the American West, he was a horse-owning urban cowboy. In his early years he played trombone in a swing band, played several other instruments, as well, and was a guest tenor with the Detroit Metropolitan Opera. Vic was an easily recognized figure on the streets of his beloved Saratoga, where he and Anne have lived for forty-seven years. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
