Christina Helen (born "Augustina Helen") and also called "Chris" or "Gussie", was born in Quincy & raised in the Boston, MA area; Father: Agustus Leo Bennett (1881-1915) from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; Mother: Rose Valerie Lissy (1884-1946) from Austria or Germany. Siblings include John F. Bennett (1909-1982), twin sisters: Elizabeth M. (Bennett) Krepon (1911-1999); Agnes F. (Bennett) Driscoll (1911-1998) and finally Augustina H. (Christina). Her father, Gus, was killed before she was born while working at the Fore River Ship Yards in Quincy, MA. in 1915. Christina attended St. Augustine's Catholic School in Boston and became an expert speller having won the Massachusetts State Spelling Bee in the 8th Grade; she had beautiful penmanship & an uncommon memory of numbers; she was a prolific reader & loved doing crossword puzzles-the harder, the better. Chris had a great memory for hundreds of jokes & loved to laugh. She was a very good cook & took pride in her homemade spagetthi sauce, her wonderful soups & stews & New England Style Dinners. As a young woman, Chris had worked in a munitions factory making armament during WWII - she was one of the "Rosie the Riveters". After her Mom, Rose Bennett, passed away (1946), Christina became the wife of Woodrow F. "Mutt" Young (civil ceremony April, 1946), whom she had met while Mutt was in the U.S. Navy & stationed at Norfolk, MA. Their first child was born in Boston, but they soon moved to Texas. Together they raised 5 children: Robert Lewis (1947), Valerie Rose (1951), Wm. F. (Bill) (1956) & twin, Leo E. (1956-2003) & Janice Marie(1958-2010) in Houston, Texas. Gussy, as she was called by most, was born & raised Roman Catholic, & came from an area of South Boston with many Italians, Polish & Jewish people - she instilled in all of her children respect for others' religious beliefs - she was never one to judge anyone for being different - whether it was their religion or their race. She was an active supporter of the March of Dimes & a very active Democrat in the political elections of the 1950's, 60's and 70's. Christina was also a staunch supporter of equality issues & racial freedoms - all controversial subjects in the 60's and 70's. Most of my beliefs today - I owe to my parents, W.F. & Christina Young. - Valerie R. (Young) Kelton
