After a courageous battle with carcinoid cancer, Allen Wayne Yost, 72, a forty-five-year resident of 51 Bailey Road, Lanesborough, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut on March 4, 1938, a son of John R. and Elizabeth F. Scheu Yost, he was a graduate of Hall High School in West Hartford and a 1962 graduate of the University of Vermont. He served with the United States Army for three years from 1958 to 1961.

After graduating from college, Mr. Yost was employed by General Electric Company, where he was an engineer for twenty-five years.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire and had been a long time parishioner of the former North American Martyrs Church. He was a member of the Wahconah Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf.

Nicknamed "Polar Bear", he also enjoyed boating, kayaking, fishing, and hunting. Mr. Yost loved his land which he converted to a tree farm. He had a passion for the conservation of land and spent his time working the tree farm, making trails, logging, and riding his 4-wheeler.

As a father of five children, he also had a passion for correcting homework, and family activities such as working in the yard and garden, playing and watching sports, and delegating.

Mr. Yost leaves his wife, Eleanor Cook Yost, whom he married on December 29, 1962. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, John Yost of Bennington, Vermont; four daughters, Sisi (Mary Elizabeth) Hoye of Sturbridge, Jeanne Asquith of East Aurora, New York, Laura Spivy of San Francisco, California, and Alane Wilansky of Marlborough, Connecticut; two brothers, Donald Yost of Thompson, Connecticut, and Kenneth Yost of The Villages, Florida; and ten grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Allen Wayne Yost will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire celebrated by Rev. David R. Raymond, Pastor. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lanesborough.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield.
