Birth: Nov. 22, 1844
Birmingham
Warwickshire, England
Death: Feb. 26, 1900
Boone County
Iowa, USA

Monday night at a few minutes past eleven o'clock Mrs. Frank Champlin passed peaceably away at their pleasant home, Sixth & Benton streets. She had been in poor health for some time with an attack of pneumonia and on Monday experienced a stroke of paralysis, the immediate cause of her death. Mrs. Champlin, nee Lavina York, was born in Birmingham, England, November 22, 1844, being fifty five years of age. Her father was an American, Captain York of Vermont, while her mother was an English woman. When but a child she came to this country with her parents. They settled in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. There she grew to young womanhood and met Frank Champlin, whose wife she became in 1862. In 1876 they removed to this city, since which time they have been prominent factors in social and business circles. Two children were born, Katherine Champlin Richmond of this city and Charles, who resides at Marion, Indiana, where he is professor of vocal music in the conservatory at that place. For a number of years Mrs. Champlin's husband was engaged in railroad work, which he abandoned to enter the banking business, being president of the City Bank for many years. A palatial residence was erected on Benton street some years ago and here Mr. and Mrs. Champlin spent the latter years of her life, surrounded by all the comforts and luxuries that the heart might crave. Among the early settlers Mrs. Champlin is remembered by the older residents of the city as well as she is known by those of later years. A woman of gentleness and refinement she was known and admired for her lovable character. A member of the Episcopal church she was a regular communicant of Grace church. The husband, son and daughter have the sympathy of the community in their great bereavement. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from her late residence, by Rev Seth M. Wilcox of Grace Episcopal church. The City Bank was closed during the afternoon.
