Alys Yoe Walker
Dr. Alys Yoe Walker, 80, of Dalton died peacefully at her home Wednesday, March 1, 2006.
She was the daughter of the late Dr. A.O. Yoe and Annie Curry Yoe and was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Don Walker, in1995, and her sister, Frances Popham Franklin.
Alys was born in Talladega, Ala., on April 5, 1925, and was one of six children, five of whom became or married optometrists or ophthalmologists. She and her husband graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., in March of 1946 and immediately opened an optometry practice in Dalton. Alys retired from her 50-year practice in March of 1996. She was a member of Dalton First United Methodist Church.
Alys is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Anne Walker of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Ava and Gerald Embry of Dalton; granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Alys and Trevor Brown of Dalton, Amy Walker of Ypsilanti, Mich.; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Rob Walker of Alpharetta, Paul and Elicia Walker of Dalton, Vance and Kelly Embry of Sarasota, Fla.; great-grandson, Nickolas Walker of Dalton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Al and Marion Yoe of Talladega, Ala., Dr. Lionel (Meredith) and JoAnn Yoe of Columbus, Dr. James Yoe of Breman; sister, Evelyn (Etna) Lawrence of Cedartown; mother-in-law, Ava Leary of Dyersburg, Tenn.; a number of nieces, nephews, and special caregivers, Deanie Westmoreland and Betty Porter, both of Ringgold.
Services are today at at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Dalton First United Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Peabody and the Rev. Al Turnell officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the atrium of the church today from 1 to 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Dalton First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 627, Dalton, GA 30722-0627.

Mrs.Alys Walker lived at 915 Stoneleigh Rd Dalton, GA. I met her twice once at her home and once at the wedding of Chris Walker her grandson. She was a very nice lady. Didn't even know she passed away. She will be missed by many.
