Oren Richard Yerks was born December 22, 1871 in Branch Co., MI and departed this live at the home of his son, Dorwin, April 17, 1932, age 60 years, 3 months, 25 days.

He was the son of James M. and Christina Yerks. During his childhood he came with his parents to Allen Co., IN where he lived the remainder of his life with the exeption of three years spent in Lafayette.

His father died Feburary 7, 1914, his mother, age 84, resides in Fort Wayne. The sister, Mrs. Clara Irving, and the brother, Cody Yerks, live in Milan Township.

He was united in marriage with Lillie Ellen Garver November 24, 1892. To this union was born three children: Dorwin Richard, Erlena May, and Irene Christina.

He was a successful truck gardener and continued his work until failing health prevented.

He united with the Church of Christ at Harlan in February, 1913 at the age of 44. He was baptised by Paul Hootman during the ministry of Elder C. W. Mahin. For years before his conversion he was a close student of the Bible. After his conversion the Bible was his only spiritual guide, his only rule of faith of practice. He read oftenest the 2nd Chapter of Acts, - Peter's Sermon on the Day of Pentecost - and quoted most frequently Verse 38, "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." He had hoped to get well that he might visit the church again and address his neighbors on these religious themes which were so dear to his heart.

He was a duitiful son, a devoted husband, and a kind and loving father.

He leaves to mourn his departure the mother, the wife, the three thildren, 12 grandchildren, the sister, the brother, and many other relatives and friends.
