Dies as He Waits for Streetcar
James M. Yerks, a retired farmer, expires very suddenly. Cause is Apoplexy.
James M. Yerks, age 68 years, a retired farmer, residing on Parnell Ave., died suddenly at 10 o'clock this morning while waiting for a downtown Driving Streetcar at the corner of Parnell Ave. and State St. His death was due to apoplexy resulting from complications from which he had suffered for some time.
Mr. Yerks had accompanied his son-in-law, Floyd Irving, from the house and intended to come to the business district with him. Mr. Irving, who resides at Milan Center, has been serving as a member of the Circuit Court. Reaching the State St. car line, the aged man fell to the ground. He was carried to the office of the Indiana State school, but medical aid failed to revive him.
He was born November 11, 1845 in Miami Co., OH, and came to Allen Co., 63 years ago with his parents. They located on a farm in St. Joe Township, where he resided until his marriage to Miss Christina Shimp, when he settled on a farm in Cedar Creek Township, and later moved to Milan Township where he lived until seven years ago, when he retired. Surviving besides the widow, he leaves three children, Orin [sic] R. and Cody M. Yerks and Mrs. Floyd Irving of Milan Center. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and one brother, Franklin Yerks, residing in Ohio.
