Catherine Miles was the tenth of eleven children born to Robert Rodgers and his wife Anna Maria Chambers in the Southwark District of Philadelphia County.
"Kate" married Daniel Hiram Yerkes; in 1870, the newlyweds lived with his brother Erwin's young family. In 1880, Hiram and Kate's growing family lived on Mifflin Street. Kate raised their three children -- Walter, Maud Esling, and Enoch Marple -- while Hiram worked as an uphosterer. By 1900, they lived on South 15th Street. From 1910 through 1930, the family lived on South 44th Street at Baltimore Avenue.
Kate's eldest daughter Maud Stokely died in 1912 from a cerebral hemmorhage at the Pennsylvania Hospital for the Insane. Husband Hiram died in 1920, leaving Kate a widow.
Kate lived 19 more years to age 90. She died of bronchio pneumonia, with arteriosclerosis and senile dementia contributing.
