Katherine Irene Yeats, 60, passed away peacefully on November 28th, 2015 at home in Kennewick, WA surrounded by family. Kathy was born September 10th, 1955 in Kellogg, Idaho to Robert and Audrey Orr. She was the second of five children. Her family moved to Kennewick in 1962. Kathy graduated from Kamiakin High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Randy.

Kathy and Randy were married on June 29th, 1974 at West Highlands United Methodist Church. Their family became complete with the birth of Ryan and Erik. When the boys began school, Kathy started to help in their classrooms. She soon decided that she enjoyed it enough to make it her career. Kathy returned to school to earn her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Eastern Washington University and Master’s degree from Heritage University. She quickly found a teaching position at Edison Elementary and taught Kindergarten and first grade there for 19 years, where she was loved by her students, giving them a great start to their educational experiences.

Kathy and Randy enjoyed traveling; from mission trips to Alaska with their church to RV trips with family and friends all over the Northwest. She particularly enjoyed family gatherings in Lincoln City and Fishhook Park on the Snake River. After the boys left the house, she joined Randy on the golf course where she enjoyed friends and became good enough to have 2 holes in one.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Orr, and by her brothers Michael and Russell. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-one years, Randall Yeats, her mother, Audrey Orr, her sister Colleen Kopf and brother James, as well as her sons Ryan and Erik, with their wives Chelsey and Hope. Ryan and Chelsey also gave her two beautiful granddaughters, Claire and Kate who she adored.

Kathy touched and positively affected so many people of all ages and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Kathy’s name to The Hospice at The Chaplaincy in Kennewick, American Cancer Society, or your childhood education charity of choice.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5 at 2:00 PM at Kennewick First Presbyterian Church, 2001 W. Kennewick Ave.
