Birth: Oct. 30, 1859
Death: Jul. 10, 1940

John Francis (Frank) Yearwood was born October 30, 1859 at Sweetwater, Monroe County, Tennessee; he died in 1940 at Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas.
According to an interview with his daughter Florence Yearwood Wray, in a booklet published by the Georgetown Heritage Society, Frank Yearwood went in 1879 from Tennessee to Williamson County, Texas, where he first worked the cattle on a farm near Round Rock. While there, he led cattle drives to distant parts of west Texas.
In 1887, he went to work for two years on the XIT Ranch in the panhandle of Texas where he helped build the first fences and also drove cattle to Colorado. His foreman, A. G. Boyce, invited him to return with him for Christmas at Georgetown, Texas, where he was introduced to his future wife, Josephine Coffee.
After hard but interesting times working the XIT Ranch, Frank Yearwood returned to Georgetown in 1891, bought 400 acres of land north of Georgetown on Berry Creek, and in 1892 he was married to Miss Coffee. He later acquired 2,000 acres of ranch land between Georgetown and Lampasas, established the "Drag Y" brand, and became a noted breeder of Polled Hereford cattle.
Frank and Josephine had eight children, all of whom actively worked the ranch and continued as successful breeders of Hereford cattle. Publications of the Georgetown Heritage Society contain many amusing and informative Yearwood family anecdotes.
Interesting stories and information about John Francis (Frank) Yearwood's life as a cowhand and foreman on the XIT Ranch can be found in the book "6,000 Miles of Fence: Life on the XIT Ranch of Texas" By Cordia Sloan Duke and Joe B. Frantz.
