Alvie Lee Yates

Alvie Lee Yates, 82 of Eugene, died March 29, 2013 of heart failure.

He was born July 4, 1931 in Tablor [sic], Oklahoma to Elgin P. Yates and Effie M. (Hedges) Yates. He married Gloria June Hancock on August 10, 1956 in Phoenix, Arizona. They were married for 57 years.

Alvie attended Arizona State University on a music scholarship. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years on the USS Redhead, Minesweeper during the Korean War. He was the Athletic Director at Eugene Bible College and was a cook at the Eugene Bible College for years.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria June Yates; a son, David Yates of Springfield; a daughter, Pamela Moore of West Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Lucille Niblett of Scottsdale, Arizona and Bonnie Larzalere of Escondido, California; two grandsons, Michael Smith and Jordan Yates; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Smith.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leonard Yates, Cecil Yates, Leford Yates, and Leon Yates.

A celebration of life is planned for April 6, 2013 at 1:00pm at the South Hills Assembly of God: 3195 Hilyard Street, Eugene, OR, 97405.

A private burial will be at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene.
