Ex-Legislator Dies Suddenly - Yates Funeral Monday Afternoon...
Funeral services for James Philip Yates of Wasco, former state legislator, will be held Monday at 3 PM at the Mount Scott funeral home, with interment at Lincoln Memorial Park. He died suddenly Friday morning at the home of his brother in law, Arthur Molesworth, of 5404 S E Center Street. He had been in ill health for a year.
He was born near Springfield, Ill., March 30, 1874, his parents moving to Oregon, near Eugene, in 1883. They moved to Sherman county in 1893. Mr. Yates spent most of his life there, coming to Portland to take a business course for a short time. A former mayor of Wasco, a post he held for two terms, he was owner of the Wasco Lumber company for 27 years. He married Casha Murray in Wasco on June 14, 1911.
Beginning in 1929, he served two terms in the state house of representatives and two terms in the senate, the latter preceded by one special term. He as a member of Taylor Lodge No. 89, A.F.& A.M.
Surviving are his widow, Casha Murray Yates; a brother, Richard Hawes Yates, Willamina, and a sister, Mrs. Ruby O'Meara, Wasco.
