Martha Jane Thomas, 94, died Nov. 3, 2006, at New Horizons Assisted Living Facility in Carrollton. Born May 25, 1912, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Forest P. and Mattie Clark Yancey.
She was the widow of W.E. "Spike" Thomas, pharmacist and a founder of Morgan & Thomas Pharmacy in Owenton. She was an active member of First Christian Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, deaconess and board member. Other activities included: charter member of Woman's Club where she was involved in the establishment of the Owen County Public Library, of which she served as board member and chairwoman. She served as a board member of the first Owenton Housing Authority Board and was a member of Owen County Historical Society.
She is survived by her daughter, Gene Allen Thomas of Owenton.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 9 at First Christian Church in Owenton with the Revs. Bill Watson and Jesse Bourne officiating. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at Owen County Public Library.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, Northern Kentucky; First Christian Church of Owenton; Owen County Public Library; or other organizations of choice.
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
