Eldest of five children, he attended schools in Danville and was a graduate of the John C. Smith University, and the Howard University School of Dentistry. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Robert T. Freeman Dental Society, and a number of other social organizations. He maintained a private practice in Washington, D.C. for 40 years, and worked with the D.C. Health Department.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lessie Wiggins Yancey; his parents, James Worden Yancey & Mary Brandon, and brother, Howard B. Yancey.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Yancey Reed and her husband, Michael Reed, and Kimberly Yancey McAlpin; four grandchildren, Michael, Faruq, Lauren, & Malcolm; cousins, Maude Yancey, Barbara Yancey, and Beth Yancey Reddick.
