Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until February 22, 1946.

William served as a Sergeant and Gunner on P-61A #42-5515, 419th Night Fighter Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Mumford, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 2, 1942 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a machine shop and also as Single, without dependents.

William was declared "Missing In Action" when the P-61 he was on failed to return from a mission in the vicinity of Waigeo Island in the Pacific.

He also has a "Cenotaph" in his honor at the Mumford Rural Cemetery, Mumford, New York.

He was awarded an Air Medal and a Purple Heart.

Service # 32584778

The remains of the plane were found in the jungle on New Guinea. There is no record of any of the airmen's remains also being there. Possibly bailed out.
