Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Anthony (November 2, 1951 June 1, 2009)

Betty Anthony, born Elizabeth Mary Yager on November 2, 1951, in Batesville, IN, died peacefully in her sleep at home on June 1, 2009.

She grew up in Clarksburg, IN, on the farm of her parents, Henry and Mary Yager, attended a two-room school for the early grades, and graduated from the Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg, IN.

She was known in later years for her determination to overcome a brain tumor, a traumatic brain injury, and a stroke - which Betty accomplished with her winning smile and sweet nature. Earlier she worked as an energy conservation engineer at General Motors using her physics degree from the University of Dayton. She also taught math and science at middle and high schools before devoting full time to raising two children. Active in Girl Scouts, church, and visiting the aged, she still made time for gardening and sewing her own clothes. After marrying Philip Anthony on May 25, 1974, they lived for four years in Urbana, IL, 21 years in Bridgewater, NJ, and the last ten in Milpitas, CA.

Betty is survived by her father, Henry Yager of Clarksburg, IN, husband Phil of Milpitas, CA, daughter Barbara Anthony of Georgetown, TX and son Stephen Anthony of Urbana, IL , brothers Jim (Lisa), Don (Kim), Paul (Lorraine), and Jerry (Bev), sisters Janet (Gus) Litmer and Ann (Mike) Koors, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Wednesday, June 3, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Milpitas, CA with Bishop P.J. McGraph & Rev. Dan Urcia officiating. A Mass of Remembrance will be held at 3 pm Friday, June 5, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rushville, IN with Rev. William Turner officiating, followed by Reflection at the Todd Funeral Home in Rushville from 4 to 6:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Betty would have suggested donations to the American Brain Tumor Association 2720 River Road Des Plaines, IL 60018 www.abta.org
