Grace Wylie Adcock was born in Houston, Texas on Sept. 21, 1914, daughter of a Presbyterian minister, Rev. Clarence Nelson Wylie and Nellie Agnes (Miller) Wylie. She graduated in 1932 from Central High School, Texas City, Texas, and in 1937 graduated with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Southern Methodist University of Dallas, Texas.
Grace taught school in Texas City before marrying Rev. Woodrow Wilson Adcock, a United Methodist minister, on Dec. 24, 1937 in Howe, Texas. She and Woodrow served pastorates in Texas at Howe, Valley View, Whitewright, Vera, Hale Center, Snyder, Pampa, Abilene, Amarillo, Brownfield, Lubbock, Seagraves and Stinnett. Woodrow preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1998. She resided in Lubbock for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her four children, Ruth Smith and husband Duggan of Granbury, Texas, Ann Fossler and husband Les of Hudson, Ohio, Woody Adcock and wife Carol of Lubbock and Beth Ankrom and husband Jerry of San Antonio; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at Carillon's Neil Chapel at 1717 Norfolk Ave.
