Lawson was the second child in a family of six known children. His brothers and sisters were: a sister who died in infancy in 1869, and the following brothers and one more sister: James F. Wyatt (1872-1875), George Reese Wyatt (1875-1921), Mary Wyatt (1877-1877), and William French Wyatt (1880-), all born in Kentucky.
About 1898, Lawson married Laura Belle Roberts, born in Kentucky (1874-1936). Laura was a daughter of George Henley Roberts (1838-), and R. Jane Ham (1842-1924), both born in Kentucky.
Lawson and Laura lived in Nicholas County for a time before they settled in Lexington in Fayette County where Lawson worked in the upholstery business. They had five children: Ray Oliver Wyat (1899-1937), Elizabeth R. Wyatt (1901-), William N. Wyatt (1905-1941), James R. Wyatt (1914-), and Ethel M. Wyatt (1920-).
Lawson died July 3, 1923, in Lexington and both he and his wife are buried in the Lexington Cemetery.
