Robert Gordon Wrigley (Age 78), who taught physics, sciences, and coached football in the Arlington County high school system from 1955 - 1980, died on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Rose Manor Health Care Center in Durham, North Carolina of complications from Parkinson"s disease.

Bob was instrumental in starting the Overlee Community Association in Arlington in 1957 where he and his family managed the acquatic programs and facilities for twenty-two years. He was a charter member, elder, choir member and Sunday school teacher at Arlington's Little Falls Presbyterian Church where he also engaged in civil rights work with his family. Bob retired from teaching high school and went on to teach management sciences for Sterling Institute and The Dreiford Group for several years before moving to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1994.

In Raleigh he was an active member and elder at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church. He also loved sharing his cottage, fishing and water-skiing at Kerr Lake. Bob's love for his family, church and community influenced his life and all those who knew him. Bob was a man of tireless energy who thrived on working on projects of all kinds. He could build or fix just about anything. He was an exceptional teacher and touched the lives of countless friends and students.

Bob was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania on July 26, 1931 to Clarence Wayne Wrigley and Mabel Shonk Nesbitt. He graduated from Kingston High School. He also graduated from Muskingum College in Ohio and later obtained a master's degree from American University in Washington, D.C.

Bob is survived by his wife, Gretchen, his children, Barbara Wrigley and her partner, Jolynne Flores of Alexandria; Rick Wrigley and his partner, Michael Burke of Provincetown, Massachusetts; Pamela and Brian Behal of Blacksburg; Christina and Daniel Porter of Poquoson; and Jennifer Wrigley of Raleigh, North Carolina; his step-children, Mike and Nancy Cochran of Islip, New York; David and Linda Cochran of Morristown, New Jersey; and Ann and Jonathan Myers of Arlington; his fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and his first wife, Marilynn Daily Swenson.

Bob will be missed by many, especially his family, who will always remember his unconditional love.

There will be a memorial service at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday, November 21 at 3 p.m.
