John W. Wright, 85, pioneer farmer and long a resident of the community southwest of Alexandria, passed away at his country home this morning at 4 o'clock. He had been in declining health for 10 years, and had been bedfast the past six weeks.
The body was taken to the Roger C. Gipe mortuary and prepared for burial. Wednesday it will be taken to the home of a son, Virgil Wright, 2 1/2 miles southwest of the city, where friends may call. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Christain church. Rev. G.W. Winfrey, the pastor, will give the discourse, and interment will be in I.O.O.F. cemetery.
Mr. Wright was born on February 21, 1860 in Brown county, Ohio. He was a son of Joseph and Rebecca (Wardlow) Wright, who moved to the community southwest of Alexandria when he was a child. He was married to Miss Ellen King on May 13, 1886.
He is survived by two sons, Virgil, Rt. 2, and Chester, at home; a sisters, Mrs. Daisy Fox, of Alexandria; four grandchildren, Clara Ellen Wright, a member of the WAVES stationed at Great Lakes, Ill., Cpl. William L. Wright, who is stationed at an air base at Fresno, Calif., Barbara Lou and Kenneth Harting, of Elwood; and two great-grandchildren, Carrie Linn Wright and Judith Lynn Harting.
Besides these relatives, he also leaves two brothers, Charles Wright, Rt. 2, and Ed Wright, Rt. 3, Alexandria.
