Edith Worthington was born and raised in Havre de Grace, MD. She was the daughter of William Evans Worthington, Jr. and Mary Louise Hopkins, and was the youngest of 4 children*. She attended Samuel Ready School in Baltimore and graduated in 1932, and for 10 yrs. worked in a doctor's office.

Edith met her husband, Frederick H. Jenkins, while attending Babcock Mem. Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, where they were married Nov. 29, 1941. They moved with their 2 sons from Baltimore to Phoenix in 1947, where she became active in church and community life.

Edith was a member of Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as President of the Woman's Association. In 1950, she joined the Sunnybrook Homemakers Club and over the years was active at all levels of the Extension Homemakers Council, President of the State Homemakers Council (1963-64) and served as a national committee chairperson (1982-84). She attended meetings throughout the U.S. and even represented the Homemakers at an international meeting in Nairobi, Kenya. For many years she was also leader of the Sunnybrook Girls 4-H Club.

Edith also volunteered at Greater Baltimore Medical Center for 17 years (1982-1999) serving as a nursing assistant in Sherwood Same Day Surgery. She became a member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary in 1989 and was a member of the Auxiliary's Craft Group, among other things.

Survivors include 3 children: Frederick H. Jenkins, Jr. of Houston, TX, Edwin L. Jenkins of Hanover, PA, and Nancy J. Haggis of Laurel MD. Edith has 4 grandchildren: Lara, Frederick H. III, Brian and Christine Jenkins. She also has nephew Steve Worthington and neice, Carol Mehrhoff.

Pallbearers are: son Ed Jenkins, grandsons Brian Jenkins and Fred Jenkins III, son-in-law Richard Haggis, nephew-in-law Michael McGee, and great great nephew Mike II McGee.

* Sister Mildred Austin of Media, PA, died several years after Edith. Her brother, Edwin L. Worthington [see memorial], is buried in Havre de Grace.
