Sarah was the daughter of William Worthington and Matilda Egans, who married on 13 Jan 1842 in Rush Co., Indiana. Her known siblings were Jefferson (b. 1842), George (b.1844), Frank (b. 1849)) and Emiline (or Evaline) (b. 1853). I found the family on the 1950 Census, living in Green Twp. (today the Argos area), Marshall, Indiana, where Sarah's father William was farming for a living.

They were still in the same area when the 1860 enumeration came around. Argos was called Walnut in those days. By that census, only Emiline/Evaline and Sarah were still at home with their parents.

Sarah married Frank H. Hoffman on 6 May 1878 in Marshall Co. The couple had three children together--Herbert (b.1879), Bertha (b.1881), and Roscoe (b. 1888). I found them on the 1900 Census, living in Argos, Marshall, Indiana, where Frank was working as a banker. Sarah indicated that all three of the children she had had were still alive.

Sadly, son Herbert died the following year at age 22. On the 1910 Census, Sarah reported that only two of her children had survived to that census. Frank gave his occupation as bank cashier. Son Roscoe, aged 22, was still living at home with his parents. Daughter Bertha had married Otto L. Grossman on 21 Apr 1903 in Marshall, Co.

Frank died in the winter of 1914 on 8 December at age 60. Sarah lived on for two more years, dying on her birthday, 18 Dec 1916 at age 61.

Interesting note: Sarah's brother Franklin married Minerva Hoffman, Frank's sister.
