Nora Alice Worthington VanderJack, 83, of Newport, Ore., died of lung cancer on March 10, 2009 at her home.
She was born Nov. 13, 1925 to Oliver and Marie Worthington in Oregon City. She grew up in Lake Grove, where she spent many happy days swimming in the lake and picking wildflowers. In 1943, she graduated from West Linn High School.
In 1947, she married Bud VanderJack at the White Temple Church in Portland. She raised her four children in Lake Grove.
She later moved to Newport, where she worked at the Inn at Otter Crest, the Embarcadero and at Mo's Restaurant. While in Newport, she also met her many friends, gardened, beachcombed, cooked for her family, knitted and crocheted.
She loved spending time at the beach with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was especially known for her gardening at her cottage with the lavender door.
She was a member of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud VanderJack in 1978; parents, Oliver and Marie Worthington and son, George VanderJack in 2008.
She is survived by her children; Coyne (Kathy) VanderJack of Juneau, Alaska, Gretchen (Rick) VanderJack of Tracy, Calif. and John (Sherrie) VanderJack of Lodi, Calif; siblings, Claude Shadburn of Lake Oswego and Virginia (Ronald) Baird of Lake Oswego; grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Mary, Heidi, Ben and Nikki and great-grandchildren, Molly, Lucy and Nora.
