Services Held-- Greta Worth Bowers, 90, of the Grandveiw Heights Care Center in Marshalltown, formerly of Monroe, died January 21, 1997, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.
Funeral services were Friday at the Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Burial was Friday at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Memorials to the Marshall County 4-H Foundation, or to a charity of the donar's choice, will be accepted.
Mrs. Bowers was born in Monroe on July 18, 1906, the daughter of J.B. and Martha Ellen Sellers Worth. She was raised and educated in Monroe, graduating from Monroe High School in 1923. She earned a B.S. Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1930 and attended graduate classes at Colorado A&M and Iowa State University. Greta married William Bowers on May 12, 1928, in Utica, Missouri and taught high school in Attica, South English, Hayfield, Bucknell and Zearing or 10 1/2 years. In June of 1945, she was employed as the Marshall County Extension Home Economist for 26 years, retiring in August of 1971. She was a member of the Monroe Baptist Church, received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Home Demonstration Association in 1956, The Florence Hall Award for Extension Economists, and the United States Department of Agriculture Superior service Award in 1964. She was an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Psi Chapter and a member of the Iowa State University 25 year club. She earned the Epsilon Sigma Phi Extension Certificate of recognition and the Marshall County Honorary 4H member, and a member of the Central Iowa Fair Hall of Fame.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William in 1943; her step-mother Marie Nelson Worth; two brothers, Loren and Edgar Worth; two sisters, Beryl and Tracy; and three step-children, Audrey, Pearl, and Pauline.
