Frances Worth Harmon of Hoffman Estates,IL
Frances Harmon, 88, passed away at St. Alexius Hospital on Dec. 4, 2010. She was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Nicholson, Pa., to Wells E. Worth and Helen (Knapp) Worth. She graduated from Nicholson High School in 1940, and during World War II, worked for the State Department in Washington, D.C., where she met her future husband, John A. Harmon. They were married Aug. 18, 1945, and were together 64 years until John's death in 2009. They raised a family in southern Illinois, and in Skokie, and then moved to Hoffman Estates in late 1958. Frances was a charter member of the Presbyterian Church of the Cross in Hoffman Estates, and sang in the church choir as well as occasionally teaching Sunday School. In 1975, John retired from teaching and he and Frances moved to Forsyth, Mo., where they enjoyed 20 wonderful years. Frances continued her church activities in Forsyth, and was active in several charities and activities related to her Seniors' group. They moved back to Schaumburg in 1996, and later to the Devonshire in Hoffman Estates. Frances is survived by sons, John (Nancy) of Schaumburg and Tom of Springfield, Mo.; grandchildren, Kristin (Jeff) Beutel and Scott Kenley, both of Madison, Wis., and Kathy Kenley of Marquette, Mich.; and great-grandchild, Megan Beutel. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her loving daughter, Susan (Mike) Rupnow; and her sister, Dorothy Haas. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
