Daughter of the late Aaron and Bernice Vaught Woolever, she grew up in Bristow, OK, and graduated from Bristow High School. She received her bachelor of science degree in education from Oklahoma State University. She married Walter D. Barnes on Janaury 19, 1936. She worked two years for OSU. After living around the United States, they moved to Watonga, OK, in 1952, where she worked for the department of human services, 13 years as a caseworker and 10 years as county administrator, retiring in 1976. She was a member of United Methodist Women, Wesleyan Circle, Geary Eastern Star, Watonga Book Review Club, Enlarge Your World Travel Club, Prime Timers Luncheon Club and Watonga Senior Citizens. She was survived by three children, Robert Barnes, Walter Barnes and Jane Carter; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters. Her funeral was held Janaury 8, 2010, at Watonga Methodist Church with The Rev. Larry Masoner officiating.
