Lela Merle Woods was the daughter of Joseph William and Cenia Alabama Sims Woods.

She was born in Washington County, Texas but moved to Somerville, Burleson, Texas as a small girl.

She married Robert Lee Davis on Feb 6, 1908. They lived in Somerville all of their married life, excepting a short move to Ranger, Texas.

They had 5 children.

After Robert Lee died, Lela worked as a cook for Somerville Schools for a number of years.

She and Mrs Malkee made the best chili and rolls as well as just good homecooked food.

Lela stepped on a nail and got gangrene in her foot.

She had to have her leg amputated just below the knee and wore a wooden leg the rest of her life...but that didn't stop her from going anywhere she was asked to go...and also making the prettiest aprons and bonnets which she 'sold' to the variety store and then used the credit to buy Christmas gifts for everyone.

She was blessed with 5 children, 5 great inlaws, and 12 grandchildren, and many other family members.

Lela's home was where the family met and gathered at least once a month.
