Lorraine E. Anderson, 85, died at 10:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home, where she had been admitted earlier that day. She was born in St. Louis on Oct. 6, 1923, one of seven children born to William and Edna (Stock) Wood Sr.

Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverly Greenlee of Jerseyville, Henrietta and James Klunk of Kane and Dottie and George Koenig of Jerseyville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy Klunk of Kane, Sandy and Robert Strauss of Medora, Chrissy and Chip Fabry of Alsip and Mike and Jennifer Koenig of Jerseyville; four great-grandchildren, R.J. and Austin Strauss and Shelby and Hunter Koenig; a brother, Norman Wood of St. Peters, Mo.; and three sisters, Dorothy and Berenice Bates, both of Jerseyville, and Harriette "Pat" Indermark of St. Louis. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Wood Jr.; a sister, Edna May Etter; and two sons-in-law, William Neil Poleet and William Greenlee Jr.

During World War II, she worked at Kroger and A & P grocery stores in St. Louis. After her marriage to Adam DeSherlia, she moved to Grafton and was a waitress at various restaurants including Pete and Bess, the Reubel Hotel, Peg and Stan's and the Riverside Inn. During her marriage to DeSherlia, they were blessed with three daughters. She later married Howard B. Anderson on July 10, 1956, in Oklahoma, and they shared 26 years together before his death on Feb. 28, 1983. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville and was a 50-year member of the Hardin Eastern Star, a member of the Jerseyville Business and Professional Women's Organization and was a former Girl Scout Leader. In her later years of life, she enjoyed working at Bev's Nifty Gift Shop, owned by her daughter.

Services were entrusted to Crawford Funeral Home of Jerseyville, Illinois.
