Florence Wood Bedell of Gainesville died Friday at E.T. York Hospice Care Center. She was 91.
Mrs. Bedell was born in Madison, N.J., and moved to Gainesville in 1950. She was a graduate of Summit College in New Jersey. She was a homemaker and had worked in New York City for Grey Goose Airways and later as a catering service manager.
She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher and circle chairman. She also coordinated Cub Scout troops, was a longtime member of Gainesville Garden Club and was a charter member of Alachua General Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered until just a few years ago.
She was also a member of Alachua County Homemakers Club, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was an avid collector and restorer of antiques, and enjoyed travel.
She was preceded in death by sons Everard S. Bedell and Spencer H. Bedell.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Harold E. Bedell of Gainesville; a sister, Helen King of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
