Mr. Albert E. Wood, fondly known as "Woody", 81, of Battle Creek,
died Monday, November 21, 2005 after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 18, 1924 in Camden, Ohio the son of John R. and Eva Wood.
Albert was a medic in the 71st Regiment, 44th Division of the US Army during WWII
and received a Bronze Star for bravery.
He was the owner of Woody's Barber Shop and the Ace Live Bait and Tackle in Battle Creek
and was later retired from the US Post Office after 10 years of service.
He and his wife also owned and operated Orchard House Foster Care for which he received many awards
for his dedication and care for the mentally impaired.
Albert is survived by his Wife of 51 years: Brownie D. Wood, Battle Creek; Daughters:
Barbara (Michael) Sayers, Battle Creek, Linda (Dean) Nielson, Marshall;
Brother: John Robert (Barbara) Wood, Grand Rapids; Daughter-in-law: Brenda Kellems, Hastings;
10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, his Sons: Gary Lee Kellems (2002) and Lonney E. Kellems (1988),
and his Brother: Earl Wood.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, travel, playing cards and gardening.
He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Church and the VFW.
Visitation will be held at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Tuesday 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service
with Pastor Gary L. Siefert of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek.
Memorial tributes may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.
