Elmer T. Wood, age 74, of 932 Leanne Drive, Knoxville, died at 1:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
He was born Jan. 4, 1934, in Long Ridge, Ark., the son of William T. and Violet Watkins Wood.
He married Roberta Watkins on Oct. 24, 1953, in Wyoming, Ill. She preceded him in death Jan. 15, 2008.
Surviving are one son, Kendall A. Wood of Oak Run, Dahinda; three grandchildren, Adam T. (Shanda K.) Wood of Knoxville, Christopher L. Wood of Brimfield and Wyatt D. Wood of Oak Run, Dahinda; four great-grandchildren, Joven Wood of Yates City, Mya S. Wood of Yates City, Evan T. Wood of Knoxville and Kaylee F. Wood of Knoxville; and sisters, Diana (Ronald) Esser of Kewanee and Betty (Joe) Williams of Castleton. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kevin Wood; and two brothers, Charles Wood and Robert Wood.
He was raised and educated in Wyoming, Ill., and graduated from Wyoming High School.
He worked for Caterpillar Inc., in Peoria and retired as planning superintendent. He was a carpenter and worked with his son in the Wood Construction Co.
He was a member of Elmore United Methodist Church in Elmore.
He was a member of A.T. Darrah Masonic Lodge 793, AF & AM of Victoria and later merged with Altona Masonic Lodge 330, AF & AM of Altona.
He was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois in Elmwood Chapter 251 in June 1964. Through mergers of chapters from Elmwood to Farmington to Fairview, he was now a member of the Fairview Chapter 99, Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois. He has held the office of worthy patron and several other offices in all three chapters.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville, with the Revs. Randy Douglass and Darlene Reiner officiating. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville, with Masonic services by Altona Masonic Lodge 330, AF & AM at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.
