Laura was the daughter of Elijah (b.1799 VT) and Sally (b. 1811 NY) Wood. Laura, sister Alice S., and sister Nancy P. (b.1842) were all born in New York. Sometime between Nancy's birth in 1842 and 1843, the family moved to Ohio where son Leman H. was born in 1843 and daughter Hannah A. was born in 1846. I found the family on the 1850 Census, living in Westfield, Morrow Co., Ohio, where Elijah was farming for a living. They were still living in Westfield on the 1860 Census. Laura was a teacher and brother Leman had become a farmer like his father.

Sometime between 1860 and 1864, Laura married Cyrus King Huey, one of seven children born to James Huey (1804 OH - 1899) and Mary Ann Hahn (1809 OH - 1854) who married on 14 May 1829 in Muskingum Co., Ohio. (Note: Mary's name was transcribed from record as Mary Aron Hasher).

By the 1870 Census, Laura and Cyrus had had at least two children together--Julia (b.1865 IN), and William (b.1868 IN). They appear on that census living in South Bend, St.Joseph Co., Indiana, where Cyrus was making a living as a chair maker. Cyrus's father James was a furniture manufacturer and both Cyrus and his older brother Melvin were chair makers.

Sadly, Laura died giving birth to daughter Laura Edith on 6 Feb. 1876. She was only 37 years old.

Cyrus would remarry two years later on 8 Jun. 1878 in Starke Co., Indiana to Elizabeth Dunkelbarger (b.1858 IN - d. aft. 1920) and they would have eleven children together before Cyrus died in 1909 at age 67.
