Served in the US Marines, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division during WWII. He fought in battles at Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa. He was a member of the Lions Club, Marine Corps league, 1st Marine Division Association, VFW, the American Legion and North McComb Baptist Church, and retired from Illinois Central Railroad as an engineer.
